New Yorker in Tondo

The play "NEW YORKER IN TONDO" of Sacred Heart School - Ateneo de Cebu was very interesting to watch. It gave the viewers laughs, and to some, a reflection to themselves of what kind of people they are. The play was about a Filipino girl named Kikay who stayed in New York for a year, and finally made her return to Tondo. She forgot about all her childhood memories in Tondo and disgusted everything, even her families clothes! She became a spoiled brat. Her friends were eventually able to change her back to her old good self after a fight.

The character that i liked the most was Kikay's brother. He was very funny, clumsy, and always brought a barbie doll with him. Although i did not really see his true purpose in the movie, i could say he was the entertainer of the show. He constantly made comments as people were talking and he overreacted a lot of times. He was the star of the show!

The story gave a realization to some Filipinos abroad who changed their attitude towards their own country, the Philippines. This play is good for those Filipinos who look down upon their own country just because they have been to another. What i really like about the play is the impact it gives to the people. Overall i would give it a 10/10 because it was PERFECT!

The Last Airbender

"The Last Airbender" is based on the cartoon series "Avatar: The Last Airbender". It is about people who belong to four different nations and are assigned to an element they can control. These four nations are: Fire nation, Earth kingdom, Air nomads, and the Water tribe. There is only going to be one Avatar: the master of all four elements and is destined to bring balance to the world. The Fire nation is trying to colonize the other three nations and be the ruler of all the land. Since the avatar is the only chance of stopping them, and the next avatar is known to be an air bender, the Fire nation killed all Air nomads but failed to kill the avatar.
The avatar, Aang, still needs to learn the other 3 elements to stand a chance against the Fire nation. In the movie, he is trying to learn water bending.

The movie was not as good as the cartoons. The plot was rushed! People who have not seen the cartoons will have a hard time understanding the movie. There are very many important things missing. The trailers were promising, but it will not meet the expectations of the viewers. It was just bad.

The characters also had poor acting. Aang in the cartoons was cheerful and fun, while Aang in the movie was very serious and boring. Almost every character's personality was different in the movie. Only one character was close to how he was supposed to be in the cartoons.

Each element in the cartoons used real-life martial arts in their fighting style. Water benders use Tai Chi, Fire benders use Northern Shaolin, Earth benders use Hung Gar, and Air benders use Ba Gua Zhang. These are one of the things that make "Avatar: The Last Airbender" a very unique cartoon. Sadly, non of these were in the movie! Most of them were doing normal punches and kicks to do bending. Everyone looked the same.

The movie has very significant visual effects for the audience. They used very realistic water for the water benders. It is also nice seeing the fire benders control real fire! The air the air benders bend in the cartoons can be seen to provide effects and to help us understand what really happened. They did a pretty good job at improving the graphics of the air. Sadly, this was not able to make up for the rest of the movie.
